Social media has altered the way companies should think about their communications efforts. In the golden days of advertising, virtually the only way to push a product message was through mass advertising efforts, print and trade public relations. Today, we also have the web – websites, online videos, e-marketing and, most recently, social media.
Businesses willing to embrace the social media curve can greatly augment their current communications efforts:
- Increased Global and Niche Reach: Social media connects us to vast global networks, as well as niche online social communities, focused on professional and personal interests (cooking, sports, family, management, etc).
- More Information = More Intelligence: Social media gives us access to more information thanks to research contributed to and gleaned from social networks. More information at our fingertips leads to more intelligent, informed decisions.
- Increased Customer and Brand Intimacy: Customers engaged with their preferred brands via social networks become more loyal to brands that represent themselves consistently and authentically.
- Increased Efficiency of Communicating: Social media communications happen quickly and naturally, allowing for easy two-way communications. In the time it takes to plan a call or email, a social media conversation may be long since completed.
As digital content continues to gain momentum over traditional print and mass advertising content so now does social media over other digital forms of communication. Don’t wait – now’s the time to get on board!
